COURSE MODULES
Module 1 – CLOSE QUARTER BATTLE – UAC MODULE by Dr Major Deepak Rao:
CQB or Close Quarter Battle Skills include all combat skills at close quarters, where the engagement may be with weapons or without weapons. Our CQB course module refers to all Close Combat Skills including unarmed combat but excluding Combat shooting or Small Team QRT tactics(which form part of another course module)
PERSPECTIVE: Conventional Martial Combat arts in civilian situations has to be modified to Commando Close Quarter situations like Hostage rescue, Silent termination, Mob fighting during Raiding ops, Riot control, Sentry immobilization, Bayonet fighting & Firearm confrontations. They will have to be executed in Teams with proper protocols, SOPS and coordination. They will have to be combined with Reflex Shooting skills when the enemy is distant. For Commando Close Quarter situations, a fighting art has to be specially designed for termination or crippling the enemy soldier with the slightest effort in the shortest time, with bare hands or the weapons at hand.
OBJECTIVE: All over the world, martial arts are now edging towards the reality combat concept. In this, Real situations are generated and the trainee is made to actually experience situational combat. We have used this principle to simulate Close Quarter Combat, to add the realism to the training. During the process of training the forces in Advanced Hand to hand combat, we experimented with creating mock Close Quarter situations for two Teams and clashing men together. During such an exercise, their expertise in Physical Fitness & endurance, Mental faculties, Hand to hand Combat, Hand to Weapon skills, Small Team Tactics, Knife & Close Quarter skills & Reflex shooting and Survival can be evaluated & developed.
Module 2 – REFLEX FIRE MODULE by Dr Major Deepak Rao:
Our Reflex Shooting module aims at developing Reflex fire at close quarters from 30 m upto 100m, useful in situations where there is no time to aim, as in CQB situations like CI Ops or Room Clearing.
PERSPECTIVE: Conventional Shooting, as practiced by our forces are a World War II British adaptation useful in Long distance warfare & has to be modified to Commando Close Quarter situations like Hostage rescue, Raiding ops, & CT Firearm confrontations. They will have to be executed in Teams with proper protocols, SOPS and coordination.
OBJECTIVE: Our innovative methodology of Reflex Shooting have been incorporated into the Battle Schools of the Army Northern Command & Eastern Commands. Vide orders of Army Commanders the Army invited us to conduct our courses of Modernization of Reflex Fire for the Army Commands. Our Reflex shooting system of ACCS (patents pending) is aimed at
- To reduce reaction time from sighting target / enemy to squeezing trigger from average 4 Sec to 1 Sec
- To increase precision / hit rates in CQB combat
- To develop confidence & comfort while being shot upon
- To encourage return counter shot instead of scurrying for cover when shot at
- To reduce collateral damage
Module 3 – QRT TRAINING MODULE by Dr Major Deepak Rao:
This module is to train a QRT unit in specialized small team tactics so as to effectively function as a force multiplier team to act with deadly force in an close combat emergency situation like a terror strike, Room intervention or Raiding operation.
PERSPECTIVE: Our forces are trained by the British World War II methodology for long range battle. Today’s battle scenario largely focuses on battle at close quarter (CQB) like Counter Terror Ops, Room intervention in an Urban scenario, with concrete built up areas, interspersed civilians & hostages. The Taj terror has already showed that large teams are ineffective in dealing with CQB situations & small teams are required to effectively neutralize the threat. The QRTs need to be trained in small team tactics, SOPs & methodology of fire within concrete areas avoiding ricochets & civilian collaterals.
OBJECTIVE: Our QRT Training module teaches one Team to fight another Team with CQB tactics. The aim of our QRT training is to
- reduce operational time
- work with lesser numbers and effect force multiplication
- increase team efficiency & hit rates
- reduce resources used (Lesser amount of deadly force for causing greater degree of damage)
- reduce collateral damage
Module 4 – URBAN COMBAT MODULE by Dr Major Deepak Rao:
This module is to train a QRT unit to function in Urban Built Up areas to act as a force multiplier to act with deadly force in Counter Terrorism Ops, including Room Intervention Ops.
PERSPECTIVE: Today’s battle scenario largely focuses on battle at close quarter (CQB) like Counter Terror Ops, Room intervention in an Urban scenario, with concrete built up areas, interspersed civilians & hostages. Our forces are trained by the British World War II methodology for battle in open terrain with long range battle protocols. The QRTs need to be trained in small team tactics, SOPs & methodology of fire within concrete areas avoiding ricochets & civilian collaterals. The Taj terror has already showed that we need to perfect & practice dealing with CQB situations with small teams to effectively neutralize the threat.
OBJECTIVE: To Train QRT Teams in built up areas for Urban Combat in specific Urban scenarios like.
- Shopping Malls & Arcades
- Theaters & Multiplexes
- Gardens, Public places
- Monuments & Heritage Structures
- Legislative assembly & Govt Buildings
To include drills for

Module 5 – JUNGLE WARFARE MODULE by Dr Major Deepak Rao:
This module is to train a QRT unit to function in Jungle terrain & guerilla warfare to act as a force multipliers for Special & CT Ops.
PERSPECTIVE: Our forces are trained by the British World War II methodology for battle in open terrain with long range battle protocols. The QRTs need to be trained in small team tactics, SOPs & methodology of fire & we need to perfect & practice dealing with CQB situations with small teams to effectively neutralize the threat.
OBJECTIVE: To Train Teams with QRT protocols with ten commandments of Close Combat Ops.
TEN COMMANDMENTS OF CLOSE QUARTER BATTLE OPS
- Don’t send large number of troops to do the job of a small team.
- Use small teams as force multipliers by adding superior firepower and resource. Carry short range weapons for room intervention.
- Command & Control should always be local, in the hands of the Team leader and never with the Higher HQs, in order to make quick and bold decisions on the spot after direct assessment.
- Act with stealth and surprise, don’t lose this greatest advantage.
- Take responsibility of your own zone of function and depend upon your buddies to take responsibility for theirs.
- Shoot first, shoot fast and shoot on any part of the target.Do not empty your magazine with mindless burst fire. Always reload under cover or under buddy coverfire.
- Try to avoid collateral damage. Remember to consider ricochets.
- Expect a small percentage of hostage and civilian casualty
- The Op is always more important than the comfort or wellbeing of your self or your buddies. Cater to injury management only after the operation.
- Don’t change the Team members. Train with the Team, Play with the Team and Fight battles with the Team.
